Becoming a mentor might seem a simple task while it is not. It is a proper job and it requires enough contribution if you want to excel in this particular field. Here is a small description of everything you need to know about mentoring:

Be empathetic:

This is the most amazing thing if you want to become an effective mentor. Being empathetic means putting yourself in someone else’s shoes and feeling the exact thing that they are experiencing. This is amazing in a sense that it allows you to reflect on the problem in an appropriate manner. Through this, you can also understand the situation of the person being mentored by you and if the situation is relatable, you will be in a position to offer more effective solutions.  

This is an amazing trait for human beings and it makes others feel the pain that you are enduring. Everyone must be empathetic as this helps you in becoming a more amazing human being and a humble person as well.

Active Listeners:

You might have seen it personally that all the mentors are active listeners and they let you speak your heart out once you reach them. This is a common trait and it lets the person being mentored to express his or her feelings in a proper manner. This also paves way for the proper communication. 

Communication and interpersonal skills are the basic elements in this entire process. Active listening develops a strong relationship between the speaker and the listener and this helps them in developing a special bond as well. If you want to become a mentor, you must practice and learn active listening. This is not just listening to what the other person is saying, this involves proper processing of the information being received for the speaker.

Mentors are self-sacrificing and they enjoy when they see someone enjoying their success. They are real leaders who feel proud when they see other flourishing. In short, they have the real desire to see people around them becoming successful. The aforementioned traits can turn you in to a successful and effective mentor.
